Luminance Study

To model adaptation of the eye as a motorist moves from the daylit exterior to the interior of the tunnel, a complex metric is used that incorporates average exterior luminances from daylit surfaces, the speed and volume of vehicular traffic, and the rate at which the human eye can adapt to changes in brightness.  Above, luminance study used to estimate the starting daylight levels at the tunnel entrance.
