While locating and coordinating all the j-box and mounting locations for the wall washers was at times an onerous task for everyone involved, I think the final effect is very successful. The lighting playfully emphasizes the spare rectilinear forms of the RTKL-designed architecture. The fixtures blend into the building facade and don’t clutter up the appearance. Since efficient and long-life T5HO fluorescent lamps were used for the wall washers, maintenance and energy costs are minimized. And, most importantly, it’s a pleasant and exciting place to spend a summer evening, and a welcome addition to the downtown L.A. revitalization.
